🎨 Mastering Graphic Design and Website Creation with Canva and WordPress

As part of my Digital Marketing course, I had the opportunity to dive deep into the fascinating world of graphic design and website creation. This module covered everything from graphic design basics using Canva to building and customizing a website with WordPress. Here’s a breakdown of the skills I’ve gained and the exciting hands-on projects I’ve worked on. 🌟

🖌 Graphic Designing with Canva: Unleashing Creativity

We started by learning the core elements of graphic design, focusing on the essential tools Canva offers. Whether you’re creating social media posts, brochures, or resumes, Canva makes the process intuitive and professional. The best part? I got to experiment with:

  • 🎨 Designing eye-catching visuals: Using templates, colors, fonts, and images, I learned how to create striking graphics that capture attention.
  • 🎬 Creating videos with transitions: I even ventured into video editing, adding smooth transitions to make engaging content.
  • 📄 Designing for different formats: From Instagram Reels 📱 to brochures 📰, we learned to adapt designs to various formats and platforms.

🌐 Website Design: From Basics to Advanced Techniques

Next, we moved on to website design, and it was an exciting journey! The first step was setting up a website by purchasing hosting through Hostinger and attaching a domain. Once we had the foundation, we dove into WordPress and started building pages and menus, slowly bringing our website to life. Here’s what I learned along the way:

🛠 WordPress Basics

  • ⚙️ Setting up the website: After purchasing hosting and attaching our domain, we used WordPress to set up the basic structure of our website, including pages, posts, and menus.
  • 🔌 Using plugins for better functionality: While WordPress has basic templates, we explored the power of premium plugins like Divi Supreme to enhance design and functionality.

🖥 Building a Professional Website with Divi

We then moved on to replicate the ‘OnePercent Club’ website, a task that was both challenging and rewarding. Using Divi, we learned to design a functional and visually appealing site by understanding three essential elements:

  • 🟦 Sections (Blue): These are the foundational building blocks of the page layout.
  • 🟩 Rows with columns (Green): Rows help to organize the content in a structured manner, while columns divide the content inside rows.
  • ⬛ Modules (Black): Modules are the individual elements within the rows, such as text, images, buttons, etc.

By utilizing these building blocks, we managed to replicate the website’s design and were amazed at how seamless and professional our website looked. ✨

📋 Creating Forms and Popups

One of the most interesting aspects of website design is making it interactive and engaging for users. We added several features to our site, including:

  • 📝 Signup forms: Using the FluentForms plugin, we created custom sign-up forms and embedded them directly into the website.
  • 💥 Popups: We learned how to create a popup that would appear when a visitor is about to leave the page. This involved using the ‘Popups for Divi’ plugin, which allowed us to design and set the popup’s visibility settings.

💬 Enhancing the User Experience

To make the website even more interactive, we added features like:

  • 📲 WhatsApp chat button: Using the WATI chatbot plugin, we created a WhatsApp button that enables visitors to chat with us instantly. We had to install the ‘Header and Footer Code Manager’ (HFCM) plugin to ensure the button’s code was placed correctly without disrupting the original website code.
  • 📹 Embedding YouTube videos: We also learned how to embed videos from YouTube into our website to make the content more engaging.
  • 🗺️ Adding Google Maps: For a more practical approach, we included an interactive map on the website, adjusting its width and height to ensure it fit seamlessly into the layout.

Conclusion

This module has been a transformative experience, equipping me with essential skills in both graphic design and website creation. Canva has given me the tools to craft visually compelling content, while WordPress, along with its powerful plugins, has opened up a world of possibilities for building and customizing websites. Thanks to Rahman Sir I’m now more confident in my ability to design websites, create professional graphics, and add interactive features that enhance user experience.
